FieldLab Desktop doesn't recognize FieldLab when connected with a USB cable

The FieldLab contains built-in safety circuitry that reduces the USB signal to intrinsically safe levels.

Some newer PCs have USB port circuitry that further weakens the USB signal to a level below the required threshold for communication between the FieldLab and FieldLab Desktop. When the signal isn't strong enough, the computer can't communicate with the FieldLab.

Two ways to solve the issue:

  • Use a shorter USB cable.
A 1-meter (or shorter) USB-A Male to USB-B Male cable preserves more of the signal than the standard 2-meter cable.

  • Connect through a powered USB hub. Plug the FieldLab into a USB hub connected to the computer, rather than directly into the computer.
